Dr Con Retsas graduated in medicine in Adelaide and completed his eye training in Sydney. He started in solo practice in 1985 and was appointed senior visiting medical officer (VMO) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital soon after, a role that he kept for many years and is now an Honorary VMO there. 

He has had extensive experience in general ophthalmology and has done thousands of cataract surgeries and now operates exclusively at the' Sydney private Eye Hospital in Ashfield. He also has a thorough knowledge in glaucoma, macular degeneration (including injections), diabetes and retinal pathology and regularly keeps his knowledge up to date by attending local and international congresses. He has a large Greek following and is fluent in greek.

In addition to his medical interests, he has also graduated in Arts (philosophy), Cognitive Science and Wine Science where he was dux of the class. His hobbies include gardening, travel, wine and theatre
